Yeah I'm just wondering..do your parents pay all of your insurance, give you money, no chores, pay for gas, pay for cell phone that kind of thing?

I'm asking because it seems some people are actually entitled to such things. I have to pay half insurance (why I don't have a car), I have to pay all my gas, pay for cell phone bill, I hardly get money, I have to do a lot of chores (chop firewood, sweep, dishes etc.)..

I think it is right considering my mom and stepdad make a combined 51k a year with 3 dependents (1 now, but for the past few years)..

I can't remember the last time we took a vacation..Most of my clothes I've had for a while..I can't understand how some people can complain about not getting any new clothes/shoes that month..I mean are you serious?

Anyways..I'd say I'd be a 4/10 on the scale of spoiledness..with 0 being independent and 12 being the kids from My Super Sweet 16.

i dont have a car, cell phone is payed for, dont officially have chores, but i do stuff anyway. i love to shop, but i purposefully dont go very often because i know i spend too much money even though most of the stuff that i get is from thrift and vintage stores (clotheswise). i spend money the most frequently on train tickets cos i go to cities on weekends a lot, for this i save lunch money during the week or ask my dad, but at most the train is 10 dollars (to ny or philly). i dont ask my parents for clothes or w/e because i feel bad about spending their money. we go on vacations fairly frequently and have family in europe. on a scale of one to ten im maybe a 6 or 7.

I’m probably a 6 or 7. Only child with parents making 200k a year. They pay for insurance/gas/phone. They pretty much give me money when I ask (although I rarely do). I don’t buy clothes…I just use what I get for Christmas/Birthday from relatives. I do chores and stuff around the house like everyone else. They only pay for all that though because I get A’s and I’m valedictorian. Otherwise they’d be all over me about getting better grades or “losing privileges.”

Well, you have to ask yourself, would you rather not be spoiled at all or be a bit spoiled (payed gas, only minor chores, no presents) and have to deal with parents who treat you like complete garbage?

I’m Val as well…getting good grades is just expected, I get no special treatment for it lol.

Lol I don’t get Christmas/Birthday gifts from relatives really. Gma makes me a cheesecake, and my other Gma gives me $25.

My family is pretty bad off overall all around.

I actually raised mine up to a 4 because we aren’t like living in a mud hut.

I got $150 for Xmas total, from family and parents combined (even with my dad)

I also had to pay for some Apps with that money…If I eat it is cereal at the house for lunch or something…or I pay the 1.25 for my lunch at school. I leave before lunch every day though.

No car (had a 20-year-old, beaten up Toyota, but it was donated to charity without anyone first asking me)

No allowance (no lunch money either)

Have chores (vacuuming, weeding, dishes, etc)

No cell phone (never)

No birthday celebrations (or gifts)

No Christmas gifts

New pair of shoes every 2-3 years

No article of clothing over $20

Not allowed to use the heater even when it’s extremely cold (oftentimes too cold to sleep

Had 56k dial-up until 2006

iPod is three years old (long before the iPhone was even heard of)(it often times shuts down arbitrarily)

Didn’t get a brand-new computer until my last year of high-school (had a string of old computers [from the 90s] that all broke down on me)

Only know 1/4 of my grandparents (one died nearly 5 decades ago, and I’ve never heard ANYTHING about the other two; don’t know whether they’re still alive, or what their names were, or where they lived, etc.)

Not allowed to use tissue paper to blow my nose (supposed to use napkins)

Not allowed to wear “outside clothes” (good clothes) inside the house; have to wear worn and often-ripped “inside clothes”

Have had to eat chicken, rice, lettuce, and oatmeal nearly every single day for the past 15 years (because they’re cheap)

Mom and I did not see eye to eye, was asked to live with my dad who barely scrapes enough money to pay the bills. I pay for cell phone/food/internet/cable. I only get x-mas gifts from my mom. It’s not so bad. I think it is good for being prepared for the real world.

I pay for everything except academia. Which means my parents pay some $9000 for a private school education (which is pretty crazy), but I pay for everything else.

they pay for gas, car, insurance, and other things. minimal chores. i also get a lot of christmas presents. income is
~900,000 so its not a strain on my parents to cover those things. in conclusion i am fairly spoiled but i dont take anything for granted. 8.

1/10 for me. I have to pay for absolutely everything I get and have been working extensively since the age of 14. I even work 80 hours a week during the summer. I don’t have a car because my parents won’t pay it or gas/insurance. I’ve worked and saved so much money the last 4 years to the point that I could easily buy a nice car, but I’d rather save my money. I also trade (in options, stocks, etc.) what I’ve earned to help my nest-egg grow even more.

Also, I don’t have an ipod or a cell phone and I had to buy the computer that I use.

My family is low income (<50K), so I don’t get a whole lot of presents. This year for Christmas I got about maybe $180 worth of stuff, which I guess isn’t bad, but most people I know got much more than that. I’m grateful for everything that I have, but I wouldn’t call myself spoiled in the slightest.

I’d put myself in the 6-8 range. My parents pay for most of my stuff and get me many expensive things, but I have no car, and they won’t let me attend a private college.

and I know my family makes 6 figures, not sure how much tho.

I guess I’m 8-ish, since I really only pay for things when they’re things that my parents really don’t want me to have and I’m like “…but I’ll pay!” hahaha.

I’m fortunate enough to live in a high-income area and my family is really comfortable financially (college won’t be too much of a strain on our resources, even though I have a sister a year younger, because my parents have saved up a lot of money for each of us; I constantly feel guilty that there are people out there who will have to turn down their dream schools’ offers because of money). Usually, if I really want something, my parents will get it for me. BUT I don’t ask for much.

i do chores when asked to, they pay for gas, they pay for insurance, they give me money for clothes, yea i don’t have a job so i depend on them but they’re pressuring me to get a job

ummm yea. we are like immigrants. so we have like no savings.

but anyways income is like 200k. only child. soooooooo. still don’t get that much lol.
everything is paid for though. i haven’t bought new clothes for like a year. or anything non-school related actually…

too bad college is gonna be a huge pain.

and to the guy whose parents make 900k a year.
:O

my parents get me whatever I want --it isn’t much though since I wear a uniform–I get new clothes like once a year, I hate asking them for stuff

they make like 6 figures…Im not really sure

I have birthday parties b/c they make me. I do an average amount of chores: laundry, dishwasher, cleaning

But, even though they do pay for everything: they have to…b/c they won’t let me get a job, go out of the house after 6, go on school trips even for sports and debate tournaments, they don’t let me drive or my friends drive me

so…they give me everything they can in terms of $$ wise, but they give me absolutely no freedom: so even though I’m allowed to get whatever I want, I’m not allowed to do anything, ever

they won’t let me go to a college out of state–they claim that if I do “they will follow me to that state”–but if I get into an out of state college, I’ll pay for it myself and go. The instate schools in arizona r quite terrible

so they spoil me in $$, but never let me do anything–even if its not even bad whatsoever
