Hey everyone!
I know Vanderbilt is rather stats-heavy (relative to other prestigious universities), but…how stats-heavy? That’s not to say my stats are bad. I have a 34 ACT (35E, 32M, 35R,35S) and a 4.3 weighted/3.999 unweighted GPA, but I have some good ECs that I think will work to my advantage, and I was wondering if Vandy would really like those over, say, a 35 composite ACT. Thanks everyone!
Just glancing over your subscores, perhaps rather than risking a shift off of your 35s you could consider prepping for the SAT Subject test Math Level 2. But only if you can be very proficient at it, (take the practice exams in the prep books in a timed way and be honest with yourself about your performance) and if you feel you need to bolster your math stats due to your academic goals. High AP subject scores can also more fully inform the adcom screening your application. Highly recommend refined essays (don’t be a stranger!), and seeking out strong letters of reference from those who can testify to how you might make use of Vanderbilt’s resources. Focus on what is in your control now. Focus on crafting smart college lists that include financial match colleges that are not as selective as Vandy and other reaches-for-everyone. Write essays that help them visualize you as a contributing member of the admitted class, no matter what your academic pursuits turn out to be. Contributing is a broad term, and doesn’t mean you have to be in the marching band (although the marching band is great at Vandy). It also mean you will be an asset in your major and minor department courses and you will use Vandy with personal verve and imagination.
