Everyone says that being a lawyer is stressfull, but whats so stressfull about it? Working 12 hours a day isn't bad unless you are stressed the entire time.

The real question is this, is it any less/more stressful from most 100K+ jobs with a high work load? I wouldn't think it would be that much more.

I don't think anyone who has practiced law would tell you it isn't stressful.

As a lawyer you are often dealing with matters that either really are important or are at least perceived as important by the client or senior attorney you work for. (And it is a big mistake for an attorney to confuse their own view of what is important with what is important to their firm.) Miss a deadline, your client can lose a lot of money. Don't check your research carefully, same thing. You are surrounded by other attorneys at work, who for the most part are ambitious, driven, smart people who like to "debate" -- your opinions are likely to be questioned/challenged -- its part of making sure you are giving the right advise.

The real issue is how you deal with the stress. Some find it exhilarating -- the challenge, the exctiement of doing a good job when it matters can be a big payoff. If really depends on your personality and what drives you.

IMO, at least, making a lot of money, is a really poor reason to subject yourself to that type of stress unless that type of stress is something you think you will thrive on because the money isn't going to help you cope with the stress otherwise.
