How strict is CSM about their preferred criteria for transfer students?

Hello!

I applied to CSM as a transfer student and I’m really hoping to get in. I was wondering how strict they are about their ‘preferred’ criteria for transfers. I meet the minimum requirements (completion of calc 1 and chem 1 w/ L and a 3.0+ gpa) and I had a good year (3.8 gpa), but I haven’t finished calc 2 and 3, chem 2, or physics 1 & 2. I was hoping to hear from others who had experience with Mines – will this count significantly against me?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions~

Hey there,
Made an account just to reply, but the short answer - at least from my experience - is no.

I applied as a transfer student while completing my very first semester of college and got accepted (hadn’t even finished!). Albeit I had already done calc I and II through high school dual enrollment, was doing III, in gen. chem., but that’s it. I didn’t meet any other “preferred” requirements and I’m transferring in the spring. I would say shoot your shot, because I did - look what happened. You should do the same since there’s nothing to lose. You can apply again next year or whenever you meet the requirements, your GPA alone should foretell your accomplishment in their coursework.

I transferred because my state doesn’t offer petroleum engineering as a major at any university. I figured chemical engineering might work, but I want to work in the oil and gas industry. Mines does it best in this aspect for me.
