On what level of schools does SEAS lie on? A friend of mine in the college said that it is a mit-safety. Is this true?

MIT is an extremely difficult school to get in, but SEAS doesn't deserve such a low rating as MIT's safety. I can agree that SEAS is easier to get into than MIT.

Yeah, MIT is obviously harder to get into. However, plenty of Columbians, including myself, turned down MIT.

Keeping your own priorities in mind is more important than the difficulty of getting in or the prestige of the school's name. I applied to SEAS early over schools like MIT and Caltech because it places a much stronger influence on balance. Engineering majors take a version of the Core and have the opportunity to pursue liberal arts minors, and I felt that these opportunities made SEAS stand out over those other much more one-sided schools...for me at least. But yes, I would probably agree as well that on the whole it's easier to get in to. Is that saying much though? From my understanding MIT admissions is as tough as it gets.
