Is the biology program geared primarily towards premeds? How good are the professors? what about research opportunities? Thanks

ooo i wanna know too! i really want to go to wellesley, but im worried about whether or not i can do research there, because thats an important part of applying to med school, which is my goal, and if not med school a solid grad program.

1. No idea. I have never taken bio at Wellesley, but there are tons of premeds at Wellesley. Definitely lots of research opportunities. The bio/chem depts. totally have all these grants for med related stuff. This is more of Ringer05's area.

2. Yes you can do research at Wellesley, and you will be able to get into med school, or grad school. I'm applying to grad school in the fall, and I have had lots of good research opportunities at Wellesley, and off-campus.

The bio program is extremely strong. It will definitely put you in a good position for graduate schools, fellowships or med school.

The strength of the department depends on what you want to get out of it. There are good research opportunities, and the premed support is phenomenal. Although I know people who have successfully gone into both research and medicine, my impression is that the deparment is geared more towards medicine. Take this with a grain of salt--talk to the department chair to see what resources are available!

Edit: I take it back! Looking through the department website, the research emphasis is much larger than I had thought. I had also forgotten about the extensive botanical study.
