Okay, im an international applying for transfer(sophomore standing) at top schools like Cornell, Brown, NYU, Amherst etc.

I didnt do well in high school but will probably manage a 3.8+ in my first semester at the college im going to in my country... heres the thing, though...

my classes are.

-Eng Rhet 201 (highest English placement for an incoming freshman)
-Intro to MacroEconomics
-Math 100 (Algebra and trignometry) <--- in college????!?!?! this is like pre-calc, right? Stupid????
-Math 199 (Quantative thinking)
-Intro to Pol Sci.

Is this a good course load for a first semester at college??? Does the pre-calc class look stupid? I already took it in high school and thought it would be easy(the only easy class). Will this put me at a disadvantage???

Did you do poorly in that class in high school and need to retake it, or do you just want a blowoff class? If you already took it in high school and are retaking it because you think it’ll be easy, then yes, that does look bad.

I got a C+ in high school. Took 8 classes in senior year.

AP English Literature A-
AP MacroEconomics B
AP Psychology B+
AP USH B+
AP EU History B
Advanced Business B-
Pre-calc C+ was doing so well (A-) but then bombed the final…

So yeah… but on my high school transcript, it doesnt say “Pre-Calc”, it just says Mathematics… no course description. Any takers???

Your classes are REALLY, REALLY, easy…and maybe only 1 of them would even transfer. You’re talking about trying to transfer into some of the best schools in the world… and for what? The name?

You don’t need to take harder classes, you need to look at other schools.

These were the classes I was offered. You have to consider the fact that this is my first semester. The only class im worried about is the MACT 100.

to be HONEST, you’re competing for a transfer spot with people who are taking more advanced classes than you. they have AP credits that let them take harder classes for their first semester. i was already taking a 200 level politics class my first semester because i was able to use an AP credit to skip the intro level.

Wait, I think I might be able to void the intro to macro class by taking a mathematical-econ class… but I dont want 3/5 of my courses to be math… should I lose the pre-calc (free A) class?
