Im sure many of us think whatever field we may going into, we are different, and that well make it big, whether it be science for research, ceo for buisness, or top doc for medicine. Dont get me wrong, I think ill make it big also. But honestly what are the chances any of us make it that big, as in success and being the one of the top dogs?

The definition of success differs for each person. I do not consider success as making it big or being a top dog. I am successful because I'm happy, because I achieved my goals, because I've done something worthwhile with my life, and because I'd made a difference in other people's lives.

I'm also a somewhat aggressive, passionate, determined (stubborn), ambitious over-achiever who goes after what I want, takes advantage of the opportunities presented to me, and makes the best of what I'm given. :)

you make a good point... i guess success is a matter of perspective

If I have a job I enjoy, that pays my bills and ensures a safe environment for me and my family, I'm happy. I also need a hot wife :).

Multi-galactic domination enforced by a million capital ship starfleet.

Now that's success.

The way I look at it is that as high achievers go through life, doors open or close at certain junctures. So you got into a great high school, fantastic, doors wide open. Then you apply to colleges, doors open wider for a percentage and doors close for some. Cuts keep happening. If you do very well and get into a top college and do well there, being at the top of your field is yours for the taking with hard work. There's still an opportunity for others who did not do as well as you to date, but they have to defy odds.

Success for me is having a happy, healthy family and a job that allows me to support that family.

I'm really not asking for much.... (But $90k+ per annum would be nice, God.)

get to know me...I'm going to be a billionaire.

If not, I'll take multi-millionaire.

I can do that for sure.

I want to live in the city, have a big dog, and work at a job that I love waking up to go to every day.

That = awesomeness.

Of course, saving lives and changing the way we look at the world falls under that "job I love" part. ;)

hmm... lot of interesting responses. much different than what i was expecting. Maybe the people i talk to and myself are just shallow. ive always had this assumption that most people want to make it big, guess i was wrong.

Once again captain "making it big" can mean something different to everyone. What is your definition of making it big? Making millions of dollars each year?...Thats pretty unlikely.
