How the hell is this an 8?

I took the SAT for the first time and got a 2000 which I am happy with for the first time but for the essay I got an 8...what the hell.

Does accepting the values of a group allow people to avoid taking responsibility for their own thoughts and actions? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

You gave good sources to back up your claim, but at times it feels like you’re just talking about the sources, but not tying it back to the main question: “Does accepting the values of a group allow people to avoid taking responsibility for their own thoughts and actions?”

There are a few attempts for it when you try to tie it back to the main theme, but you don’t elaborate on it much. Try to focus less on your sources and focus more on the claim. It goes from summary a of Nazi Germany, then a “everyone is doing it,” followed by more summary. After that, it’s more summary of things with snippets of the prompt stuck in there, but not actually being developed. Focus more on how those sources play into the question rather than just saying they exemplify what the prompt is asking.

It’s kind of awkward listing your sources at the end of it, considering the reader has just finished reading your essay. They would fit better in the introduction in this case.

Those are just a few thoughts that went through my head when I read it. Hope it helps a bit.
