how the parents jobs impact the application :)

Well I'm applying to the elites

My mom got an AS degree and my dad didn't get any college degree.

Will that help me at all as economically-disadvantaged even if my dad makes a ton of money so i won't check the "will apply for aid" box?

Thanks

Sorry to use your thread oracle1 to post my own question, but since it is kind of under the same topic...

I am the first person in my immediate family to be receiving a college degree (neither of my parents have college degrees), how can that help me?

I don't really know the answer to your question, though. :(

np similar question...shan you are applying to colleges as well?

my brother goes to college, does that count?

Usually if you're a first generation college bound student then that should give you a lift since they assume that you grew up in an environment where college was more likely to be discouraged and thus schools will give u an extra push

No, I'm a junior actually, I'm just attempting to cure summer boredom and I want high school to be finished so badly I really like looking at college. :)

How about you, what schools are you looking at?

o gosh, what if your parents studied to be an engineer or a doctor or whatever (in their home country) but now is a taxi driver in the USA or something? would you put on parents education "XXX Country Institute of engineering" and then next to job put "taxi driver". wont that seem an illogical fit, or will admins understand ?

also, wut about step-parents ? does that give a boost, or is there essentially no bearing on the application ? also, wut if only one parent works, (of the two) ?

gooduniforme i don't know how admins would understand? as if that is a regular occurance

wow, that's actually similar to my situation.

^ how does that impact? cuz i have a similar situation too

lol SPECIFY, happens all the time ! like "hey, i was a general in the army in XXX country"..."o ya, what are you doing here driving a taxi, then?"

it seems like a complex problem, because obviously your parents are educated, but their occupations simply may not reflect that, on top of the fact that despite such a high education level, the income may be low.

I think a situation smilar to the one referred to before is more than reasonable, and I'm sure if schools find it "suspicious" that they will look into the situation and find out, so as long as it's true you have nothing to worry about.

Neither of my parents went to college -- but my sisters did. Am I first-generation?
