I am in the process of self-reporting my grades on the common application. I have included in the Education section under colleges and universities that I have done coursework at colleges. However, in the section that I self report my grades, there is an option to add “other courses”. When I select the box that says “school”, it only shows my high school, but I am trying to report grades from classes that I did not take at my high school. Am I just supposed to upload these college transcripts somewhere in the common application?
We’re running into the same problem. Were you able to resolve it? Anyone else?
I’m having this same problem. These were courses both taken at the community college and at a 4-year university online and were used to satisfy high school requirements, so they are on my D’s HS transcript. They are not dual enrollment, because that signifies taken at HS for college credit…it’s the reverse situation. The Common App says you must report all classes that show up on your transcript so I am hesitant to not include them, but I do not want to post them incorrectly. I’m from CA, so counselors around here know how to do only UC and CSU app’s. Let me know if you’ve figured it out.
Just a thought - but perhaps mention the classes/grades/institutions in the additional information section and then have the college send an official transcript to the universities to which you are applying?
This is what I found on the Common App Help page:
How do I report a college course I took during high school in Courses & Grades?
When high school students simultaneously take college courses through a college or university, this is known as dual enrollment. For Courses & Grades, only courses receiving high school credit (i.e. appearing on your high school transcript) should be reported in this section. If you are not receiving high school credit for the course, you do not need to report this course in Courses & Grades.
If you are receiving high school credit for a college course, here’s what you need to do: •Select the appropriate grade level for when you took the course (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, or Other)
•For the School Name, select the high school that awarded the credit for the college course
•For the Course Level, select Dual Enrollment
•Complete the remaining parts of Courses & Grades
And, I also found this:
Where should I list a course that offers both college and high school credit?
Students should use the Current or Most Recent Year Courses section to capture all courses they are enrolled in for the year, including dual enrollment college courses that grant high school credit. Students should use the Colleges & Universities section to list all colleges that have or will grant them college credit, including dual enrollment courses and any college course taken independent of the high school (i.e. no high school credit is received). Students should not include AP/IB courses in the Colleges & Universities section.
…So, I had been told Dual Enrollment is when you take at High School for college credit, but it appears that the reverse situation is also considered dual enrollment on the common app.
