How to ask for more money?

Has anyone done this successfully before? My top school didnt give me enough money and there are several other schools that gave me more, so I want to tell them, but I don't know how to go about it. Should I call or email them? and how should I word my request and summary of what other schools are offering me? Also, if I have already recieved the highest award for a school, is it possbile for them to give me more if I ask?

This only works if the school(s) that gave you the more generous FA is/are of the same or higher level than the one you are requesting a review from. It also does not work with merit aid.

The way to do this was to call up the school and request a review and mention that you have a higher FA offer from another school. They will usually ask you to FAX them the other offer.

And remember…some schools will discuss your financial aid package with you…and others simply will NOT and will NOT make any changes to it. This is at the discretion of the schools.

Are you asking for more merit money or more financial aid?

Do you qualify for financial aid, or is your EFC to big?

if your top school is higher (rank, prestige) than the other schools, then you won’t likely get more money.

To successfully get one school to match another school’s offer, call the financial aid officer at the top school and let them know that how much you really would like to attend their school. Be polite and professional. Explain that money is an issue and that you have several higher offers from similar schools. You will need to fax the higher offers to the top school’s Financial Aid Office. Remember, you are the consumer: think airline ticket-pricing. Everyone on the plane is paying a different price for their seat. Colleges operate in a similar fashion. As others have said though, this will only work if the colleges in question are at the same level.
