Hi guys,
This is my situation: I didn't get close to any of my profs from last semester, but I'm trying this semester. I've visited my econ prof at office hours and have genuinely expressed my interest in econ and asked questions on concepts that I'm confused on. She remembers who I am even though she has 200+ students (is that a good sign?). I really like her and would like her to write me a rec. However, my problem is that we've only known each other for about 3ish weeks. I'm afraid that she wouldn't want to write me a rec this early on. :/ But I'm still going to try my luck asking. The deadline for the transfer app is March 1st, so if I were to ask, I need to do so very soon. How should I ask her for a rec so that it doesn't look like I'm "using" her?? :/ Please help, I would really appreciate any! Thanks.

Asking for a letter of recommendation is more awkward as a transfer student in general, but in my experience, professors seem used to it, and above all, want their students to succeed.

You ask a good question, though, whether it’s better to have a letter from a professor who has given you a grade but might not know you, or one who knows you but hasn’t yet given you a grade. Maybe you should ask the admissions committee? All of my letters are from former professors.

Also, two weeks is cutting it pretty close. I would ask soon if I were you.

Yes, I plan on asking tomorrow to give her 2 weeks. I have gotten some grades, and she is starting to know me. She knows my name and has shared an article, that I showed her, to the class. And I think she remembers me because I asked her about the econ field. So although we have established a relationship, it might still be premature. I still don’t know how I’m going to ask her. What do I say?
