How to ask for Recs from non-teachers/councelors

I know somebody who I want to get a rec from (for my own reasons)
The only contact I have with them is e-mail.

When I ask them for a letter of recommendation how do I tell them how to attach it to my common app (or whatever)?

Thanks!

1) if you’re only contact with them is by email, how close a relationship do you have and if it’s not close, the LOR will probably be only fluff and generalities – not a useful LOR at all

2) You just have him/her send you a copy and you copy it and mail it in to the colleges you’re targeting.

If this is Common App and your schools allow online letters of rec, you can (after asking this person, of course!) type their email into the Common App’s online rec thingy and it should send them a link where they can fill out a recommendation online. Colleges to which you submit your app should get the rec with it.

On the other hand, if you need it by mail, you can have them send it to you, but remember that they’ll need to seal the envelopes (sign on the flap).
