how to ask someone this?

Okay, so whenever I ask someone their age and they say somewhere from 19-22, I am tempted to ask which college they go to. I never do ask them though because I cannot just assume that they go to college, although the temptation is too much! Idk why it's so tempting to me. Is there a nice way to ask someone where it won't be awkward if they say "i don't go to college?" I mean, I can always ask "what are you doing now?" but that won't always get me the response that I want =</p>

just be like “hey, do you go to <insert local=”" college=“” here=“”>?"</insert>

Yeah just say, hey you look familiar do you go to “w/e college”?

and what about people I already know that are seniors…

“What are you going to do next year?”

Ask “Do you go to college?”

That way you’re not presuming either way, and if the person says “no”, then you have your answer. It’s less awkward then you think, really. If they say yes, then obviously you continue with “where? because I’m in high school and looking at a bunch of them” or something like that.

And for seniors ask “Are you going to college next year?” Duh.

(The same technique works for things like evolution (“are you pro evolution?”) and religion (“are you religious?”) too.) Ask what you want to hear.

see but if I ask “are you going to college” and they actually are, then they might think I regard them as stupid.

I’m not even going to talk about the implications of that statement

Ask what they do. Generally, they will say either <job> or student and then ask.</job>

Just ask them if they go to college lol (if you can’t already assume they do).

“Are you in school?”
“Nope.”
“Oh ok that’s what’s up. (change subject to avoid awkwardness)”

just ask if they in school
