How to Assign Recommenders on CA?

<p>We are filling out common app and trying to assign recommenders. The only ones we can assign under "manage recommenders" is "other recommenders," which are art teacher, clergy, coach, etc. There is no way to assign the main recommenders, or add them to the manage list.</p>

<p>Any ideas as to how to invite the main teacher recommenders?? </p>

<p>I think last year our kid’s high school guidance counselor office did this. The kids turned a list of what recommenders they wanted to use for each school, and the office set it up. I think they have a link between Naviance and the Common App, and they do it through that. Then they actually upload the recommendations when they receive them from the teachers. That might not be the case for your school, but that is how it was done at ours. So ask the HS guidance counselor if they need to help with this.</p>

<p>Some GCs don’t work on this until the kids are back in school… just warning you, as most students don’t even send in their first applications until October/November. Pretty much every high school senior is doing SOME application work in the fall, even if they have some rolling admission schools they are applying to early. Many schools won’t consider the applications anyway until they get the components the high school has to provide – transcripts, teacher recommendations, GC recommendations. You want to stay on the good side of your kid’s GC, so be polite and respect their timetable if they aren’t ready when you are. Most of them have hundreds of kids they are doing this for and don’t appreciate unnecessary pressure or requests from parents. So unless you have a deadline coming up that the college or scholarship requires action on, your GC may not do some of this until after school starts.</p>

<p>Yesway777…Ran into the same problem. Your school is using Naviance which is linked to the common application. Your LOR will be submitted through this program. My HS just decided to sign up for it so it should be really interesting cuz none of the teachers or counselors know how it works</p>

<p>I posted this on another thread but I want everyone to know what’s happening.OK, so I was trying to link my common app and Naviance and the common app said to contact the counselor. So I made an appointment with my counselor, and we tried to figure out how to link my account. We went to troubleshooting on Naviance and it said my counselor had to enable the link for the common app for me in the settings. My counselor tried that. It did not work. We were getting pretty exasperated because we had spent the last 20 minutes trying to figure out how to link the common app and naiviance. Finally, my counselor looked up the Naviance support service phone number and called. She talked to a Naviance support person that told us why we could not link the common app and naviance. Read this:
Since the Common App (and Naviance I think) was updated this year, the link between the two is not up yet. The link between the two should be up by the end of the month so you can easily manage your recommendations, transcripts, test scores, etc. So keep on waiting and checking out your Naviance account.
