I can't for the life of me do these sections.

There's 2 types of double passage sections - one that has 2 unrelated passages and sets of questions, and one asking you to compare/contrast 2 passages talking about a similar thing.

I'm awful at both of these and have a week to get better at them. Does anyone have any tips?

Hey,

I’m an SAT tutor. New to these forums, would love to help you out too. Are you having more trouble with the short passage comparisons or long passage comparisons?

Long passage.

I’m normally very good at almost anything except the compare and contrast long passages. I need a strategy right now, because I’m taking the test in a week and these passages are the reason I’m not getting an 800 in CR. It’s very bothersome :|

I just can never finish on time with those.

When you read the 2nd passage, highlight any words or things that have been mentioned in passage 1. Usually these are the keys to answering the compare and contrast questions. You say you are normally very good so, as long as you get the main idea of the passages and think about what do the authors of both passage agree and disagree on, you should be fine…

I, personally, suck at CR… No matter how much I practice, the passages always kill me so, don’t take my advice word for word… English isn’t my 1st language so, I am not that great at it but I do “ok” haha

The best thing my tutor taught me was that after reading the first section, skip the second and go right to the questions. There are about 4-5 questions that you can answer without even reading the second(most of these are direct line references). There are a couple questions that ask you to compare the two passages. You can do this without reading the second one as well. Look through the answer choices and cross out the ones that were never mentioned in the 1st passage. You should be then down to 2 or at most 3 choices left.
