How to Attack the SAT Critical Reading Section Effectively

noitaraperp can you make video of this strategy ? . do you think first Q then passage is the best way to attack Qs ? Thank you

^Some people have such a sense of entitlement. You like the work that someone has done for free - to help you and others. This person has devoted countless hours to sharing effective strategies. Now youā€™ve decided another project would help you so you just ask someone to devote countless more hours.

Why donā€™t you hang out a bit and contribute before directing other peopleā€™s time?

Sorry for the rant, but really?

Do you suggest to take practice reading test timed or untimed? Also I know you used Princeton word smart , but which one do you think is better direct hits or the previous one?

^I think its helpful to start with some untamed, open book practice tests. Move to closed book after youā€™ve learned enough of the info in the books and then at some point, you should switch to timed tests to prepare for the timing constraint.

Alright thanks and what do you do for reviewing writing?

^I suggest Erica Meltzerā€™s Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar and a lot of practice tests with review.

I got a 690 on my first try without studying much at all and was wondering if you believe I can get to high 700s using your method? Thanks so much for your help!

just try it!. how can he know your improvement ? if you use this method properly , its effective

Awesome Job!!! Thanks for putting up all the necessary points together

By the way, Iā€™m somewhat free this coming month and I am looking to make money for my grad school costs. If you need any personalized tutoring for critical reading, or know anyone who does, that would be super awesome. I know this sounds a little mercenary, but itā€™s hard for me to give extremely personalized tutoring to a lot of people, since I get PMā€™ed about it quite a lot (especially around this time of year).

@Noitaraperpā€Œ
In what area are you in?

I was actually thinking of Skype tutoring.

Oh, that makes a lot more sense. Lol

Iā€™ve done about 15 full Critical Reading sections (60 total) and Iā€™ve only jumped from 580 in june to 630 (however I occasionally score more on practice tests). I usually get 5-6 total vocab wrong, and around 6 passage based wrongā€¦ Iā€™ve tried every different method but none of it has been working wonders for me  My last shot at the SAT is in December and I really need a 700+
One of my main problems in passage based is that sometimes I donā€™t even understand some of the choices that they give me, itā€™s weird. Any tips? :s

@Noitaraperpā€Œ I remember reading somewhere (donā€™t remember exactly) that when picking an answer or choosing between two seemingly similar/ possibly correct answers you should find the exact phrase/sentence/ line in the passage that directly supports an answer and pick that one. Would that be an effective way to approach the CR?

Thanks!

ThIs was so helpful guys. Thanks

This is amazing!!! You just saved my lifeā€¦
I had already taken the test in November and didnā€™t do so well on the reading section (730). Iā€™m aiming for above a 750 in January this week! Thanks so much!!!

Hey, I found this post very helpful. However, Iā€™m confused about how you didnā€™t exhaust all of your blue book resources. If you took around 25 practice tests, you would transparently need another resource. What did you use?

should I take a class to help me with the critical reading section? or is it not worth it? how else can you prepare for this section??

how much do you tutor for??
