How should I go about getting straight A's in 4 AP's & 1 Honor course, studying for SAT's/ACT's/AP tests, and and being very involved in EC's? To me, it seems out of reach to get straight A's, but I know that I must in order to raise my final GPA to a 3.76.

Tips/advice/suggestions/words of wisdom or inspiration? (:

You buy Cal Newport’s book “How to become a Straight-A Student.” Also, his other book which comes out in July, called “How to become a high school superstar.”

i wouldnt want to be like cal newport in real life

something to think about…

he writes books for students, mainly to make money since he knows its a fairly untapped market for those types of books

Oh okay, thanks.
Anyway, does anyone have advice that they’d like to share in terms of earning straight A’s?

To be more specific: how to manage time well and be efficient

I suggest trying to be me and thus becoming amazing at everything.

Procrastinate a lot, sleep less than the requisite 8 hours, and smile at teachers.

Hahaha, thanks guys :]

I actually think ECs help one to be a more efficient student. They provide structure and force management. One of my ballet teachers is doing a panel for her PhD right now and that seems to be the general consensus among all of us.

well. Pick one or two ec’s or ec areas(like music, writing, athletics, etc). If you pick more than that, good luck.

Focus on the bad classes first. If you have over a 95 in a class, I stop bothering working. But I don’t really know well this method works.

If you sleep more than 8 hours a night, you’ll be healthy, but you won’t be great.

Suck-ups get pretty far in life. Just saying. :(

I’ve got more tips. Try not to procrastinate, but saying that doesn’t really ever work.

BTW- Why is a 3.76 considered just okay? I mean, it is an ‘A’ average. I don’t know how so many kids have 4.0’s…

Thanks for the insight Millan and emily (:

ok, heres the straight dizzy:

set standards for what you want to achieve

continually remind yourself what will happen if you DON’T do what you are supposed to, if you dont achieve what you want

feel how good it will feel to have what you want, success

remind yourself of the PAIN that will come if you fail, and feel that pain, how bad it hurts

then do whatever needs to be done

…you only live this shttt once

Thank you for the straight dizzy, bagels :] That’s actually awesome motivation.

Like I said, read up on some Cal Newport.

You can Google his blog “Study Hacks.” He has tons of entries that are free to read.
