Right now, my friend is at a CSU. He's a sophomore and he's considering applying to the UC's. He's taking 9 units right now at a Community College along with his 11 at SJSU right now. If he drops out of SJSU and goes to a CC next semester, will he be considered a CC applicant? He's planning on cramming a ton of classes next semester so he can have the majority of his units as CCC units. The biggest problem I see is that he won't be considered a "full-time" CCC student because he only took 9 CCC units this semester WITH his 11 SJSU units.

I've been told 2 things about being considered a CCC transfer:
-You have to attend a full year as a full-time student at a CCC in the year you're applying
-You have to have the majority of your units from a CCC.

If you could help my friend out, that'd be great. Thanks guys.

Definition of a California community college transfer:
A California community college student applying for admission to UC as a junior transfer will be given priority admission over other similarly qualified
applicants if: 1) he/she was enrolled at one or more California community colleges for at least two terms (excluding summer sessions); and 2) the last
college he/she attended before admission to a UC campus was a California community college (excluding summer sessions); and 3) he/she has completed
at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at one or more California community colleges.

But this semester, 9 units at a CC while enrolled in 11 SJSU units; would that be considered full time at a CC for a whole year if he enrolls in a CC next semester?

I believe the “full time” rule only applies to UC Davis and it was for TAG. Even though it’s a requirement, if you have a good reason for not being full time then they let it slide. This was my case.

"You must be a California community college student. Do you meet the definition?

You have been enrolled at one or more CCCs for at least 2 regular terms (excludes summer sessions)
You have completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at a CCC
You are attending a CCC as your last college before UC San Diego admission (excludes summer sessions)"

I’m not sure if it varies from school to school.

Any updates on the transfer process? I’m currently at a 4 year oos considering moving back to attend cc then transfer to an in state school. Can someone confirm you don’t have to be full time? I did 3 years cc already and 1 quarter oos so I realistically only need 1 or two classes a semester
