How to be diagnosed with ADD?

Well, ADD runs in my family, my father has it, my sister has it, as well as my brother. I was talking about it with my mom, and she was telling me the symptoms and I could related to a lot of them, severe procrastination, forgetful of homework assignments and small things like bring my lunch or appointment with teachers, unorganized, etc. So I was curious as how to get tested for ADD because I feel like it may be affect my performance in school.

My son was formally diagnosed with ADHD - Predominately Inattentive Type. I did more reading an realized that my father and I also have Adult ADD too though we’ve learned to adapt in our own ways.

However, you must be “formally” tested to get the disability benefits available in high school and college. The college clinics cost was about 60% less that the doctors offices I called (and the testing cost is not usually covered by any health insurance).

My kids’ pediatrician recommended a local psychologist, who tested them and gave us a thorough diagnosis report. Once the psychologist confirmed the ADD diagnosis, the pediatrician then prescribed medication.
