How do you stay focused and motivated on your work?

I struggle with this, too. My trick is to keep in mind what’s at stake. Your whole career will be based on what you’re learning now. Try to keep from getting distracted.

I think everyone struggles with this, especially once you get into high school. I agree with pressle54, it’s all about thinking about what’s at stake. My drive is to get me into the school of my dreams with scholarships… and if I have to do math for that, then I guess I’ll just do it! I also have worked out a schedule that works for me, which is very important, and I take breaks when I get frustrated or give myself little rewards for doing my work. Hope that helps!

I’m ashamed to say that I was not motivated in the slightest in 9th grade. I took mostly online classes and was miserable. It was the first year I homeschooled and we were newbies, not aware that online classes aren’t for anybody.

I am a junior now and ever since sophomore year I have been taking most of my courses at the local community college. I came to the school expecting it to be loaded with dummies and easy courses. Wrong. I have met some of the most intelligent, inspiring people and they keep me constantly motivated. I am always doing schoolwork and loving the learning process like never before. And while many classes are challenging, others, like the four history classes I have taken, are not. I just supplement - in US history 1 and 2, for example, I read the textbooks cover to cover.

In essence, I just needed a different environment to feel motivated. I was a very good student through 8th grade, a lousy one in 9th, and am doing better than I ever expected now!
