how to become a CFO?

how do you start/work your way up? do most/all CFO's have MBA's? and majors in economics or finance?

Accounting is the single most important skill a CFO will possess.

So in order of importance (note: this is job-related - remember this is CFO specific related), I'd say:

Remember the CFO's primary responsibility is the management of a company's finances, overseeing the production of accurate and timely financial reports, and if it is a public company, liaising with the Wall St. analyst community to discuss quarterly / yearly earnings, performance etc.

Of course the CFO particiates on other management issues - but his primary focus is on the company's finances rather than strategy (i.e. more-MBA related things)
