I'm looking to apply to one or two Ivy Leagues (Dartmouth and Brown) and I'm aware of their low acceptance rates, but I'm also hoping to get into other schools similar to Ivy Leagues, such as Middlebury or Wesleyan. I don't have weak grades but they're not as high as I know the others' I will be competing against are. My unweighted is a 93.3 and my weighted is a 97. (On a 4.0 scale, I think I have a 3.8) I'm still a Junior and I'm starting my second semester of the school year. I've gotten a few high B's (mostly in math and science) so I don't have the quintessential straight-A transcript others might have. I got a 2200 on the SAT and plan on raising that the next time I take it, as well as a 33 on the ACT. I play varsity Hockey and I'm in several clubs, I'm also a camp counselor during the summer with 250+ hrs of community service. I'm just looking for information or ideas on how I can make up for my imperfect grades but also make myself look more appealing than other applicants with stellar grades. Thanks

You have good scores, and if you can get them better that would be great. Your GPA alone doesn’t tell the whole story, it also depends on the rigor of the classes. If you get a B in an AP or honors math class that’ll be a lot better then if it was just regular. That being said an Ivy League school does expect you to take the hardest classes you have available, so if you aren’t your chances will decrease. For your ECs, they sound decent, nothing spectacular, but you didn’t really elaborate (i.e. unique club, leadership experience). The camp counselor thing sounds interesting, but it is fairly common. One other thing to remember is that schools are not looking for hours and hours of community service they just want to see you getting involved in your community doing something you care about. Hope this helps and no matter what you do Ivy League schools will always be a reach.
