How to Boost Chances for Wharton?

So I'm a junior at a large public high school right now and I've been looking into colleges recently. UPenn (Wharton) seems to be my definite #1 choice (I'm intent on studying business).

I know it's 2nd semester of my junior year and almost everything is set, but what can I do to boost my chances at Wharton. I'm ranked 5/1000ish, have a 2350 SAT, 2 summer research internships, leadership positions in a few clubs, and some minor awards here and there?

What can I do to boost my chances?

btw, the focus of my app is going to be science (i know Wharton is business, but i hear that colleges are just looking for a strong passion in some area)

Do well on your SAT IIs if you haven’t taken them already. Your stats look solid so there’s not much more you can do at this point.

Also, if you’re interested in science you might consider applying to the M&T Program.

^yeah,I’m hoping to do well on SAT IIs.

As for M&T, I think it’s even a longer shot than Wharton (utlra-competitive, only takes 50kids a year, etc.), but I’m definitely considering it.

How about getting some work experience, or starting a (maybe business-ish) school club? <— would these significantly impact chances?

They wouldn’t hurt.

The thing to keep in mind with M&T is that if you don’t get in you’re still considered for Wharton with the exact same chances as everyone else, so applying can’t make your acceptance likelihood worse.

^how does the M&T app work? is it first apply ED and if deferred, then considered for Wharton RD?

No, at least as far as I know, you can get rejected from M&T and still be accepted Wharton ED.

yeah basically u get a shot for Wharton ED too with the possibility of getting in M&T. if ur focusing on science with ur stats apply m&t u have a good shot i guess

Get a headstart on your essay this summer. Your stats seem fitting already.

@whartonhopeful92: From what I know, it seems that you can apply M&T and get asked to be considered for Wharton if you get rejected from M&T Early. So in other words, it seems like you can get rejected EARLY M&T, but get accepted Wharton early.

The other case is being deferred from M&T early and waiting to hear in april, and i’m not so sure about what happens after that. For example, my guess is that if you get rejected from M&T after being deferred, you still get a chance at Wharton RD. But if you got rejected early for M&T, you can be accepted early for Wharton.

I’m not too sure if that is the 100% case, but it seems like it’d be something like that.

Hope that helps! And good luck.

opening a business club at this point is a deal-breaker because it’s obvious it’s a last second afterthought. You’ll send adcom a vibe of shallowness
