How to buy a car?

Can anyone give me an overview of how much a car would cost me (with insurance and all that jazz) if I were to get one on my own? I am not looking for anything fancy, just something that can get me from places to places without exploding. I'll be 21 soon and no history of accident or speeding.

^It depends on your part of the country and a whole bunch of other factors. You could do a few online quotes which would be more representative that anything anyone here could tell you.

Find a car for sale that you like (or whatever your maximum budget is) and get a quote for that particular car for insurance. You’d have somewhat of an idea.

Your price floor should be $3000. Below that is risky, you’ll mostly find really beat up cars that will require lots of repairs.

Insurance varies from place to place and person to person. I got my provisional license in September 2009 and most insurance quotes I do on myself are about $140 a month. If you finance the car then it’ll probably be more expensive than buying it outright since most states require you to get comprehensive and collision insurance as opposed to just liability.
