how to buy books?

I have classes soon and i was wondering where most people at ucf get their books? also, is it more popular to rent or buy used. thanks

I’m not sure about others but my O-Teamer at orientation said most people just use the bookstore and buy them used. I’ve heard amazon as another resource.
I’d also like to know though if anyone has a recommendation on where to get them =)

The cheapest place to buy books for UCF would be CB&S off campus. I bought the required texts for World Religions and Intermediate Math and found that CB&S had noticeably cheaper prices. Also, one other option you may want to look at can be international texts. These international texts are soft bound rather than hard bound and are 50-60 percent cheaper than their hard bound counterparts.

Good luck!

You can buy a lot of books for cheaper online, just search around. The problem is a lot of classes require special packages and homework codes that are only sold by the bookstore. If a class requires just a book alone, it’s usually cheaper to look elsewhere.

Down Alafaya, there’s also Greg’s bookstore (I think that’s what it’s called.) The prices are much cheaper too. It’s like right across from 7-11. Also, if you need one of those… what do you call it… one of those little remote thingies that has ‘A, B, C, or D’… some professors make you buy them to check in for attendance or for class participation. Anyways, CHEAPER at Greg’s bookstore. Don’t buy books from UCF unless you absolutely need to.

We need to set up a page to sell books on here, LOL. I collected quite a few books that I haven’t gotten around to selling >_>

By all means try NOT go to the campus bookstore. It’s a rip off, but you may need to for certain classes that require packages and online codes (complete with textbooks of no resale value:/). Check ratemyprofessor.com and see what other students say about textbook usage; it can save you a lot of money and study problems.

Like Mizzxvii said, there’s Greg’s bookstore, much cheaper. Also there are C&S bookstores, one across the street from main campus in the plaza with the Quizzno’s-pizza place-frozen yogurt-dollar store. There’s another one in the area too, can’t remember where. There’s also a Book-X-Change (or whatever it’s called) near the McDonalds. All would have used books and the first 2 have rentals.

The cheapest method is finding them online. Half.ebay.com is where I look first. A lot of users in the area will post their used books on Craigslist and facebook has a UCF textbook page (students post what they have and/or what they need).

^

The other CB&S is on University. It’s actually within closer distance than the CB&S near the frozen yogurt place, which isn’t far to begin with. It’s like right behind… I would say Apple Bee’s or Dunkin Donuts… Somewhere in those plazas…

It’s Grey’s bookstore. :]
they sell comic books too, just a fun fact.

Textbook Solutions! It’s usually a lot cheaper than Grey’s or CB&S. Way more cheap than the bookstore and if there’s a better offer out there, then they’ll tell you where to find the book! They’re amazing. Very friendly and helpful too. You don’t have to go search for your book, they do it for you. Also, during buyback, you get a lot more out of your used books than at other stores. GO THERE! They’re by Pei Wei and World of Beer off University. Deff recommend them!
