How to calculate GPA at UGA??? Unweighted and weighted??

I need to know as I am applying for the fellowship scholarship. My high school adds 7 points for every honors/AP class. How does this translate to unweighted/weighted for UGA?

for unweighted does it mean I take off the 7 and calculate it on a 4.0 scale? or does it mean I keep the 7 but dont add .5 for every AP?
and for weighted does it mean I keep the 7? or take off the 7 and only add .5??

im so confusedddddd

thanks for the help

it depends on what your school determines to be an A, because there is no straight percentage to 4.0 gpa scale conversion.

UGA does not add weight for honors classes, but they do for AP

for example:
say your school converts a 95 percent to a 4.0, and an 85 percent to a 3.0.

so if you made an 85 in an honors class, it remains an 85.
if you made an 85 in an AP class, it would be bumped up to a 95.

AP classes add 1.0 to the base grade essentially. so don’t count any of the extra points your school adds on, just add it to the core grade.

its a bit confusing, but i hope i helped. if not, i’ll try to clarify further.

I’d recommend asking this question on the [UGA admissions blog](http://ugaadmissions.blogspot.com/). The folks from the Admissions office will be able to give you a definitive answer.

so to clarify, unweighted would be the 7 points added but not the .5 extra? and weighted would be the .5 in addition to the 7?

I don’t think you add .5 in addition to the 7. It doesn’t make sense for UGA to give you more “bonus” GPA points when your school already awarded you 7 extra points.

unweighted means you dont add any points whatsoever. not from UGA or your school.

weighted means you would add the 1.0 (10 points) to your AP classes only.

Straight from the UGA admissions website, "Using a standard 4.0 scale [see chart], we convert each grade earned according to the grading scale in use at your high school at the time the course was taken.

Additionally, if a weight is not already added to an individual grade, we raise by the equivalent of one half-letter grade (0.5) each grade earned in an AP or IB course."

Whoops, good post GAdawg
looks like I was wrong. I went to a tour recently and I thought for sure thats what I had been told, but it looks like I was wrong. Sorry for giving bad info guys

haha yea that is why i have been so confused about this issue. thanks though!

that sorta answer my question GAdawg. so since weight was added . . . . I keep the 7 but dont add .5 ? correct? The would that be my weighted or unweighted? and how do i find the other?

So if the questions i am asking seem really dumb, I am just trying to make sure i cam correct as this is the very first question on the foundation application and I dont want to mess that up!

thanks again
you guys are very helpful
