I’ve heard a lot of different things about how Emory calculates their GPA, I was wondering what the official word on it was, thanks!
Also, do they include freshmen grades?

They calculate GPA unweighted. No 5.0 for an A in an AP class. It’s a 4.0 scale and freshman grades are included.
@EmoryMom2019
Huh? Are you sure? I was told that they don’t look at freshman year and only look at the rigor in an information session at Emory.
Does any one know if they definitely include freshmen year grades in their GPA calculation
I have heard from several sources online that they don’t include freshman grades
As someone who is currently attending Oxford and went to the information sessions last year, they do not, in fact, count freshman year GPA. Emory Mom is correct about the nonweighted calculation, though they of course consider the difficulty of classes you took.

Can anyone confirm this
Sure they might not calculate it in their GPA but I know for a fact that they do consider your freshman classes and the grades you attained in those classes.
I posted earlier on this topic that Freshman grades ARE used in the GPA calculation. Several other posters disagreed with me. I don’t know about a “calculation” per se of your GPA. I know that your entire transcript is reviewed for rigor, grades, etc. This was specifically discussed at an accepted students breakfast here in San Francisco last April. The only schools I know of that don’t use Freshman grades in their GPA are the University of California schools (Davis, Berkley, etc.). I know I don’t know about all schools but am familiar with the ones my children have applied to. Fun times! Good Luck!
When they calculate the gpa, do they do it based on final year average or semester averages?
