How to calculate HS GPA?

Hi, I'm just so confused because my high school transcript has my GPA in numerical (/100 based) form and I don't quite know how to get it out of 4.0, how do I turn my grades into that format?

Look up your letter grade GPA equivalences, add 'em up, and divide by the number of courses you took.

What is your gpa once you calculate it

LydiaSofia: Okay so are all A’s (90-100) considered 4.0, because in that case, unweighted my gpa is 4.0 but idk if there is somewhere in between for these

DrDavid: Not quite sure, but the gpa my school gave me is 102.8

ahh. okay. well… In my experience, A- (90-92.99) are 3.7… But I do know some scales count all 90-100 as 4.0
A+ 97.00–100.00
A 93.00-96.99
A- 90.00-92.99

Maybe other ccers can clear up the confusion?

Lydia’s scale and advice looks good.

For the scale ask you school if they have a conversation chart … if not Lydia’s is a solid one … there is no agreed upon standard … its also not necessary to use the +/- scale; using straight grades is fine if your school does not designate +/-.

The other thing she mentions that is important is to do this correctly you need to convert each grade and figure out a average … and not convert just an average. Here’s an example at a just straight grades … both kids have a 91 average … so if we convert them both off the average they both have a 4.0. Student #1 has course grades of 91, 91, 91, 91 so it converts to a 4.0 also. Student #2 has course grades of 96, 96, 86. 86 … which converts to a 3.5.

Oh alright thanks! And for the advice
another question, how do AP classes appear on the weighted scale, if an A- is 3.7, if it’s an AP class what would it be?

4.7 for an A- in an AP

This all totally depends on your school.

What’s wrong with having a 100 scale? That’s what I have and it’s infinitely better than 4.0.

^ a couple reasons. First, almost all colleges use a 4.0 scale. Second, a 4.0 scale is much closer to how your performance will be graded in the work world (on a scale with 4-5 ratings).

I get the apparent allure of the 100 point scale but I call it the illusion of precision … is a student with a 98.11 really a better student than a student with a 98.10? On a 4.0 scale they are both A students and no signifigance is placed on the what is a statistical insignificant difference.

Well judging from a copy of my transcript that I have, it simply puts A: 90-100, B: 80-89, C: 75-79, D: 70-74, F: 0-69
So would that mean that if every class fits between the 90-100 mark it is simply an A and therefore 4.0?

I think so. Congratulations! :)

Thanks for all the help! Appreciate it!
