My school has not provided me with an unweighted GPA. My weighted fell at around 3.86 after junior year.
I have tried calculating my UW myself to see where I fall with admissions, but I’ve found there are a lot of variables…
My school’s grading system treats a 92% as a B+, where as many schools it is still considered as an A. Do colleges typically take this to account when calculating GPA?
I also have an abundance of fine arts credits, a phys ed credit, and 3 years of theology credits on my transcript. Since most of these are considered easy A’s, do colleges typically take these out?
With all of these factors my UW could range from 3.56 to 3.85 which has made my college search difficult. It’d be much easier to decide on colleges to apply to with a more narrow estimate.
Every school has their own system of doing averages. It’s best to directly ask your school, since none of us can really give you a definite answer regarding your GPA. Though typically, it’s usually out of 5.0 for APs and out of 4.5 for honors.
Your school will send a HS profile along your application, and so even if only the weighted gpa is sent, colleges can choose to unweight it themselves if need be. Usually, they include how the grading system works at your particular school, such as weighing and ABCDEF scales.
Some colleges do indeed take out art classes when recalculating GPA, but not all. Note that the classes most relevant to your major will get more attention.

Use this calculator and select regular classes. Also do not include non-core classes such as PE.
@Gumbymom Thanks! Theology classes wouldn’t fall under core, correct?
Also, would my 92%'s be considered B’s (as my school scores them) or A’s (as most other schools score them)?
Again, that would depend upon how your school scores. Colleges will not expect you to covert your %GPA into a 4 point scale, so I would leave things as they are on your transcript.
Religion/Theology classes would not fall under core classes.
Many schools use 93% as the cutoff for an A.
@Gumbymom @“Erin’s Dad” Got it. Thank you both!
