I’m applying for a PLUS loan. (Well, my dad is). Anyways, on my parents fafsa account, it’s under my moms name and information. My mom has bad credit and they’d prefer to have my dad apply for the loan. Do we have to make him a new account? Or how does it work? Because right now when I’m on my parents fafsa account and try to apply for a loan, it keeps saying it’s under my moms name.
The FAFSA account should be in your name since you are the student.
Are your parents separated or divorced?
Did you put your mom on your FAFSA as your parent because you live with her more?
I am not sure but I think either of your parents can apply for a Plus loan. Ask the school how that works.
You can use the parent not on your FAFSA to apply for a PLUS loan - people do it all the time. Does your school use a paper PLUS loan request form, or do they have the parent apply online? Find out how he needs to apply, and he will need to do everything himself. Again, he doesn’t have to be on the FAFSA, but he has to do the PLUS application using all of his own information.
