How to choose the right major and carrer?

I am only a freshman in high school and it is time to take my future plans seriously and make a plan. I have been browsing colleges, college majors, and careers for about 2 years now and I have obtained a lot of knowledge and have an idea of what I want to do. I want to go to a 4 year small college but I don't know exactly what to do after that. I can see myself going into HR but at the same time I can also see myself majoring in accounting and then going into the finance sector. Also MIS has always been on the back of my mind because I have a interest in technology and videogames. So business is definitely something I have an interest in but I am opened to other suggestions. So my question is How did you guys decide on which major is the right one? Also how do you pick a career if you like so many of them? Also if it helps my ultimate goal is to have a family friendly job which pays enough so that I can support a family.

You’re still young, spend some time in high school exploring different subjects and try to find what interests you the most. It’s fine to have a plan but it’s a little ridiculous to get set on a major right now.

"Also if it helps my ultimate goal is to have a family friendly job which pays enough so that I can support a family. "

That’s the American Dream, my friend

well i would say to start shadowing different people with jobs you’re interested in
but dont force yourself to pick a major right now… lots of people change majors in college

You still have plenty of time. And if your goal is to have a family-supporting job, not the job that will make you buckets of money, you have a lot of options open to you.

Since you are just starting high school, you are just starting to see classes get more specific than “science” and “social studies.” Figure out what you enjoy in school, perhaps shadow, but don’t stress. I had no idea what I wanted to do until it just sort of “clicked” halfway through junior year.
