How to Choose?

I have been searching for colleges for a little while now, but I still do not have a clue as to what I'm looking for. I was hoping that you could help. :)

I am undecided on just about everything. I don't really have any careers in mind that I would like to have, but I know that I do not want to be a M.D.

I'm looking for a college that isn't necessarily first rate, but has a somewhat positive reputation. I'm hoping to maybe get in for a low rate, possibly even free? But that's not a huge concern.

To help give you an idea of my academic profile:

-I'm a High School Junior from Florida
-I'm ranked 3/360 or so in my school
-3.94 (unweighted) and a 4.48 (weighted)
-SATs: 640 CR, 730 M, 660 W (First time)
-I got a 5 on my AP World History exam last year, and am currently taking AP Bio, AP English Lang, APUSH, and AP Psych.
And I also took a few Dual Enrollment courses.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a specific field of study in mind?

No, not in particular. I may be leaning towards business, but I’m still up in the air about it.

You are eligible for Florida bright scholars? Look at your state schools. There is a thread on Florida schools that may be helpful to you. These would be the best options if you are undecided on a major and have fiscal restraints. Your scores would also make you eligible for scholarships to a number of OOS schools.

I should be eligible for the Florida Bright Scholars award, but I’m not sure if the schools in Florida are right for me.

Get a copy of the Fiske Guide to Colleges and spend some time looking over schools. Visit a few this spring – maybe try a couple of different sizes, and rural vs. urban school. Unless you already know your preference there… And work with your parents to run the Net Price Calculator on each school’s site.

Using this process, develop a list of schools to apply to. Have a couple of reaches (where your stats aren’t the greatest, but you really like the school), a few matches (where your stats fall in the 50%-75% range for the school), and a safety or two that you are pretty much certain to get into AND can afford AND would like to attend.

This process is always easier if you have a major in mind. If you can identify a few different areas you might be interested in, that can help.

U Florida
FSU
UMiami (Not sure about aid)

Thanks for the replies. I should probably talk to my guidance councelor and see if she could give me some insight as to what I would like to do.

the schools I would look at would be
drake university
lake forest college (not to be confused with wake forest…which is also excellent)
muhlenberg college
and if you need/want to stay in floirda rollins college

Thanks zobroward! I’ll check them out. :)
