How to deal with a bad AP teacher?

I know that the usual advice is to self-study, but I'm more worried about getting an A/high B in the class. The year's just started and I'm at an 80, so I'm pretty worried.

The teacher in question is my AP Lang teacher, so it's even worse since English is subjective. She doesn't teach much and assigns a lot of homework, but that's not my main problem with her: it's that she insists we follow a bunch of silly red-tape-ish rules, such as only being allowed to write in pen and follow a certain fill-in-the-blank type sentence format when writing analyses. Her essay grading system is the same way- I suspect she's a speed reader since if we don't open with a direct topic sentence and support with 3 paragraphs + conclusion, etc, she'll mark it off.

Me failing the class would be quite ironic, since I have one of the highest SAT and ACT scores in the class. Besides transferring out of the class (which one person has already done), do you have any suggestions?

Just follow her rules in class and study for the AP test outside. If you know all the rules to getting an A, why don’t you just follow them?

Then you must be very good at following arbitrary writing conventions. I don’t see what the problem is.
