Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I don’t see how to declare a major through Common App. Does it vary college to college? Because I can’t see it on Yale’s page in the Common App. Any responses would be great, thank you!
Some colleges (large state universities are examples) admit to specific “schools” within the university. Like the engineering school, business school, maybe something like a “literature, science, and arts” school that includes many liberal arts type majors, etc. So when you apply, you have to specify which of those “schools” within the college you are applying to. I think sometimes specific majors are “impacted” (too many people applying to them), and they may also ask questions along those lines. But there are a lot of schools that don’t admit by major. If it is required information, I assume you would find it in the school supplement. Otherwise they don’t admit by major and you don’t have to tell them if you don’t want to. It often comes out anyway in essays or other ways in the application, though.
