How to demonstrate proficiency in speaking and writing

Hello everybody, since the application year just began, I am concerned about my application process and how the schools are going to consider my TOEFL scores because my performance was not ideal (20 for speaking, 22 for writing). Because this test was taken almost a year ago (12/2015), it doesn’t show any improvements that I have made since then. How can I show those improvements in my application process? (retaking it is not an option due to financial circumstances).

By the way, my composite score is 94 (R 26,L 26, S 20, W 22).

Thanks In advance.

If you can’t re-take the TOEFL, and you can’t take the IELTS, then you have to submit the score you have. Have you taken the ACT or SAT? Your results on that exam will also be considered in your application.

@happymomof1 yes, I took the june test and I performed badly on it (M 630, R&W 620) I am planning to retake it again in November (expecting a 150 point improvement at least)

@happymomof1 the TOEFL costs like 3 SATs haha, right now I’m putting more emphasis on the SAT because it’s cheaper, but I don’t know how much is considered in terms of English proficiency.

Each place you apply to will have its own way of using the information from the TOEFL and the SAT to evaluate you as a student. If you want to know the details, you need to contact the international admissions offices, and ask each of them separately.

Lots of places will be happy to admit you with a TOEFL of 94. So check the admissions requirements of the places on your list.

@happymomof1 Ok I will do what you say, thanks for your advice.

Some schools require minimum of 22/23 on each TOEFL session.

This may help.
