Hi,

I am signed up for CSE 120 (a beginning intro CSE class), and I was wondering what level course this is? I am a freshman, and I thought that this was a 100-level course because the course had a 120 and not some number like 220 or 320. Plus, it's an intro to CSE, so I thought it would definitely be easier than CSE 142. However, I heard from someone that this was a level 300 course.
Do you guys happen to have any ideas?

Thanks!

From the course description, it sounds like it’s an introduction to the field of computer science and thus a relatively easy class after all. It’s kind of similar to how CHEM 120 is a broader and simplified version of CHEM 142. Keep in mind that most engineering majors I know of require CSE 142 instead of the one you’re planning on taking, but if you’re looking to give the subject a try, then it’s not a bad way to start.

Good luck!

Usually, upper-level coursework = 300-400 level courses (courses that actually start with a 3 or 4), but there will be classes that seem to be much tougher than upper-level courses that are only leveled 100-200.

It’s pretty much the first digit of the course number, 1, 2, 3, or 4.
For example, Second Year French is French 201.
