<p>I'm confused about the switching of tenses in this sentence. like you start off with the present tense, resent, then you go into were, and then back into demand...</p>

<p>what does that mean? i've heard of hypothetical situations using past tense. true?</p>

<p>a while ago there was a thread discussing this stuff: "if i were his age", "if i was his age", something like that. if nobody remembers it (if no one were not to remember;)) i'll try to do a search.</p>
