How to dorm with a friend?

Hi,

Me and my friend both got into Irvine. We wanted to know how we could dorm together at Middle Earth/Mesa Court.

Is it easy? How would this work? and how would we do this?

Thnx

Here’s info from the UCI Housing site:

[UC Irvine Student Housing - Prospective Students - Frequently Asked Questions](http://www.housing.uci.edu/prospective/faq.asp)

“If you and a friend who is also entering UCI want to room together, you can make that request on the online Personal Information Form. To do so, BOTH of you must indicate a desire to live in the same community and you must mutually request one another on your respective Personal Information Forms. You must also respond consistently to questions regarding coed or single-gender suite living and preferred themes. While every attempt will be made to honor your roommate request, placement is not guaranteed.”

Since you didn’t ask, I won’t comment on the pros and cons of rooming with a friend. Besides, there’s already a ton of CC posts on the subject.

^mamoose, go ahead and tell us the pro’s and con’s. im thinking about dorming with a friend but i’ve heard stories about how things have turned out really wrong :/

thnx
and what are the pros and cons?
or is there a thread on this?
cuz i cant find it
lol
thnx

Here are the meal plans…
why are there so few meals??? i, for one, eat all 3 meals EVERY SINGLE DAY.
and are they like… rollover?

165 Block Meals per quarter (approx. 15 meals per week) w/$50.00 Flex Dollars

120 Block Meals per quarter (approx. 11 meals per week) w/$75.00 Flex Dollars

100 Block Meals per quarter (approx. 9 meals per week) w/$75.00 Flex Dollars

Meals don’t roll over, but the Flex dollars do.
I know very few people that ever run out of the 165, I only have the 120 and I came close last quarter but ended this quarter with about 20 meals. Use those flex dollars every once in awhile. Also you won’t be on campus 100% of the time and will end up eating at places like In and Out at least a few times! And on the weekends they only serve brunch at like 11, so your pretty much stuck with 2 means, if you dont go home.

My “in a nutshell” summary:

It’s probably okay to room with someone you’re friends with if you think you have compatible schedules and habits.

It’s often not a good idea to room with your very, very best friend because you’ll either:

 1. discover things about that person that you can’t stand and it’ll tank your friendship; or
 2. you’ll be so joined-at-the-hip that you won’t be open to the new experiences and friendships that college offers.

Breakfastclub, the meal thing confused me as well (i.e., I worried that my son would starve), but it turns out that (like tatertots says) nobody runs out of meals. For one thing, there’s only two meals on Saturdays and Sunday (brunch and dinner… everyone sleeps through breakfast anyway), and people often miss breakfast (or lunch) during the week, or miss some over a holiday weekend, etc. Also, you simply can’t survive on dining hall food alone – your stomach will stage a revolution if you do. Thus, while there are (in theory) 19 meals a week to be ingested, most people are hard-pressed to go through 15.

^thanks mamoose. :)
