I'm interested in double majoring in Comp-Sci and Electrical Engineering. I was accepted as an EE major so I'm wondering if someone familiar with the process could walk me through the steps of double majoring.

Thanks

You have to get permission from the Comp Sci department to double major in it and you do not actually seek that until for the beginning of third year and it may or may not be allowed, and during first two years, you need to complete CS courses that freshman and sophomore CS majors would complete, and you need to do that while you are doing everything required for EE. You should discuss this issue with your advisor.

You should be aware that most engineering majors who arrive at UIUC with the firm belief that they will double major usually come to their senses long before third year because trying to take courses needed for both majors and also take Gen Ed requirements is a bear to complete, not just because of the number of hours but also because you need to find in the course schedules times for CS courses that do not conflict with the times for EE courses you have to take, which itself can be difficult to find. It easily adds at least one semester and usually two to a four year program. Egos being what they are, there are usually dozens of new freshman engineering students including many new EE students who arrive as freshman certain that they are going to double major. By junior year, the number in any particular major like EE who actually end up double majoring is very often zero, one or two.

Thanks for the info.
