I'd like a little more insight on how double majoring works in college. I plan on double majoring in accounting and finance but I'm not sure how the process works. Am I required to wait until my junior year before letting my academic advisor know my intentions or could I just sign up to double major on my very first month in college? Would really appreciate any responses from current college students or anyone else with knowledge on the issue.

You complete your pre-reqs, you go to your advisor, tell them you want to to double major, and voilla! Your a finance and accounting double major!

Are pre-requisites introductory courses to one's major or just basic introductory college courses(i.e. science & us history). And how long do the pre-requisites take?

I think they differ among schools, but at my school, you had to complete 2 semesters of intro acct, 1 stat course, micro+macro econ, and a calc course. It usually takes 2 years to complete.
