Hi, I'm a second year student currently living in what would be considered a "party house" with three other roommates. Despite the constant drinking, partying, etc that occurs in our house, I've been able to get solid grades. However, when it comes to eating properly, I can't for the life of me, do it. I'm always eating out at fast food and restaurants with my friends, and things of that nature.

For those of you who live in similar conditions, how do you eat properly, and what times of things do you cook? I'm a pretty good cook, so that is not a problem, its just that I usually get lazy and decide to go out. When I was living at home, I was always able to eat great, but since I began college, its all gone down hill, thanks.

Do stuff with your friends besides go out to eat, and when you do go out to eat with them, get something small or healthy like a salad. and work out a lot.

I'm pretty big on fitness, so I watch my diet/exercising.
If you're interested in maintaining your weight, just balance; don't worry about eating too much (just eat until you feel happy or full), but then do exercise and sweat a little everyday and get your heart rate up there for 30 to 45 minutes/day.

Remember, the hard part is actually getting on a healthy routine (forcing yourself to just do it). once you get into a habit of ordering and only choosing 'healthy' foods when you're around friends, you'll find it easier to maintain that; however, as soon as you break into a bad diet consisting of fried foods, etc.. you'll easily succumb to a poor diet.

I do try to eat healthy and so far, it has been successful. Here is the secret:

buy the lowest meal plan, eat occasionally at the dining hall.
I also order groceries (many grocery stores will do this for a small fee) every 3-4 weeks or so, to cook for myself. Its the only way really. Learn (and learn to love) to cook.

We always meet on Saturdays and someone rotating cooks (It's funny, and really, really nice).

On Sundays we always prepare a huge bowl of pasta with some kind of vegetable sauce (depending on what he have), and freeze it in small portions. Whenever somebody cooks (it's not funny to cook one portion anyway), he cooks more and freezes it. We also make sure that we always have enough cheese sauce frozen, because it's awesome with most frozen veggies.
That's cheap microwave food, and it tastes exactly how you like it... and can be healthy.

We also have our salad day on Friday, where we take all leftovers (ham, eggs, chicken stripes, cheese, fungi, noodles,.. whatever), and create a huge bowl of "salad with everything".
