I totally disagree with aim78. Shave as often (or as rarely) as it makes you look cool without looking like a bum. Ideally you should wash your face in the morning AND at night.

You should use cologne. I don't know why not; girls notice it and like it (provided you buy something expensive and not too strong).

You should dress relatively well--i.e. sweatpants only once or twice a week (unless you're the sporty type and can get away with it)--otherwise, nice jeans/khakis/cords and a cool t-shirt, polo, or long-sleeve.

And also, I wouldn't consider acne medication "cosmetic" or "chick" stuff, no more than I'd consider vitamins for "old people." But if you start using coverup on your acne, then we might have a problem...

I used accutane in high school and it worked great. It's been 3.5 years since I took accutane and my acne is starting to come back, but not as severe. It runs in my mom's side of the family, so I will always have it. I also get razor bumps really bad so I use some kind of solution that I found at Wal-Mart and it works good.

Weight: When my dad was playing football he would drink whole milk and eat peanut butter every night. I don't know how much weight he wanted to gain but he weighed no more than 190 in high school but was extremely strong (benched 475 lbs in college). In high school I kept a good diet and lifted weights. When I stopped working out in 2001 I was 185 lbs and could bench 240 lbs, and that was good enough for me. But I got out of shape since then and within 1.5 years starting in 2002 I went from 193 lbs to 230 lbs from eating fast food and drinking too much pop. I felt terrible. I cut out that stuff and I now at 215 lbs (6'1'' tall). If I would work out regularly I could probably get down to 200 lbs but I'm too lazy.

from a girls perspecive, too much stubble= bad
cologne in moderation= yummy
coverup on guys' acne= bad

have good hygene please! that means showers daily, cutting fingernails and toenails, and brushing teeth at least 2x. we will all appreciate it. and no, we won't think you're too feminine if you have to take steps to get rid of the acne. sometimes its what you gotta do

I used accutane. It has some pretty bad side effects, such as depression and psychosis. Some people have even committed suicide due to the effects. I experienced the depression during my senior year of high school (2001) when everything (grades, getting into college, extracurricular activites) was going great. Despite the great things going on in my life I had a bad attitude. The lasting side effect for me is dry skin, particularly dry lips. I don't go anywhere without lip balm. My lips feel very dry even if they don't look like it. But while I was on accutane I had an extremely dry scalp, which is bad because I am a black guy who keeps a low haircut and the dandruff was pretty obvious. Also, I was shedding lots of skin on my fingers. I had to touch a lot of hot dishes as a dishwasher (part-time job) and at one point I literally had no fingerprints.

Accutane is for severe acne and my acne wasn't severe but my doctor let me use it to see what would happen. It cleared my acne up, but the scars remain. Recently some acne has been coming back but I don't pay much attention to it and I don't let it affect my confidence.

I'd pick one cologne and stick with it. This is just me, but I like to associate one scent with a guy, and not have it changed. For instance, one of my guy friends smells like soap (good soap), and another smells like cologne (such nice cologne....). When I smell either thing, it makes me think of that guy. You want girls to think about you when you're not there.

I'd also ditch the goatee...go totally clean-shaven. Facial hair is incredibly unattractive to most highschool girls.

One last thing: thin really isn't bad. There are some very attractive thin men out there.

I think skinny guys CAN be really hot if they find the right clothes. If you look at all the mod-rock bands, notice that almost all of them are anorexic-looking skinny. Do a google search for Matthew Bellamy (lead vocals of Muse) and notice that he is HOT (or at least my friend thinks so, lol).

Even though you think skinniness is a vice of sorts, sometimes it's a good idea to turn just work that vice into something that works for you and "market" it.

DUDE! Who the hell cares, you'll never be happy if you constantly worry about this crap. Yeah...wear nice clothes and cologne and do your hair or whatever, but there's only so much you can do. Look at that Clay Aiken guy from American Idol....he was ugly as hell and even after he had all the profesional make-over/appearance enhancers he still wasn't "GOOD" looking. My advice is do you what you can but that's not all that matters. Acne, you'll eventually get over and you probably are like me and have a high metabolism and DON'T gain weight. I'm 6' and weigh like 145 btw. Lift weights if you want but don't let this crap consume you. And if this message doesn't touch your heart I suggest what someone else suggested...hang out with people uglier than you.

Well said. Don't worry about all this crap. Good hygiene is it, really. If a girl isn't attracted to you because you don't wear certain types of clothes or a certain cologne, forget about her. Girls will do this to you. They'll say, "Oh, skinny guys are SO HOT!" Or, "I LOVE muscular guys." Or, "Guys with long hair are so sexy." Forget EVERYTHING they say. For every trait or disfigurement, there's a girl who thinks it's hot. They don't know what they want. Just be yourself.

clothes, cologne, looking clean cut, appeareance all matter

it only enhances who you are as a person. you can only increase in your attractiveness not lose points. its win win situation as long as you commit.

dont do it and be who you are. the alternative is better thou

Obviously, young people these days like cologne, and that's fine. The older generation which I am from finds cologne nausiating. Regardless, cologne, or anything perfumed or scented you use around your face ABSOLUTELY will contribute to acne. It really is best to use scentless soaps, lotions, and other facial products and if you must wear cologne, only put it on subtle places below the armpits (not including wrists because hands come in close contact with the face often). A dab on the hips and behind the kneecaps would work well.

-Read the Perricone Prescription for Acne and change what you eat...medication is just masking symptoms of actual problems - your acne isn't there for no reason.
-Wow...if you're 118 lbs and 5'11" then you must look positively anorexic. I am 5'7" and the same weight and my friends constantly tell me i am way too thin..negative weight...etc. You need to eat a lot of protein and exercise, make sure your diet is healthy and balanced, and get a good multivitamin. Something is definetly wrong if you are that thin. Lift weights too.
-If you have any friends with a good sense of style, go shopping with them. Make sure your clothing fits decently. Get a good haircut. Smell good.
-And make sure to have a super personality and confidence (but not overconfidence!)- you'll be attractive even if you arn't physically attractive, and that will come in time.

Airight I am gonna put a whole slew of stuff in here:

-first dealing with the acne. Go on to www.acne.org Follow the regimen completely. I have been doing that and I am pretty much acne free nowadays. It works well and it isnt a business (thus the .org) and instead shows you how to get rid of acne easily.

-And yes clothing is important. Go out and buy clothes that actually fit your build (ie. dont buy XXXL in order to look "ghetto", you will look plain ridiculous because of your skinny build)

-Work on your confidence and persona. Very important factor. You gotta feel attractive to be attractive I suppose.

abercrombie stuff is all fake. if your going to spend money on something like abercrombie your better off buying something that is genuine and isnt fake and costs the same. look at low entry designers and their colognes. they tend to be less mass consumer oriented and provide that unique smell people want.

I wasn't implying that Abercrombie products are high quality. In fact, I've never purchased any clothing from Abercrombie and Fitch, and I've never wanted to, and I never will.

Despite all that, the smell "Fierce," by Abercrombie, is not only distinctive, but also pleasant. I am attracted to boys who wear that smell. Just sayin'.
