How to explain dropping of BC Calc?

So I was in BC Calc this year (even though I wanted to AB or Stats), and ended up dropping it last week. I dropped it because I truly wanted to learn calculus, and it just wasn't happening in a class where all we did was prepare for an AP test (I'm in 4 other APs, but I can actually keep up with and learn from those). So I dropped down to honors, because that's all that I could fit into my schedule.

When I was at an info session at Tufts on Thursday, they said that if you want to provide an explanation like "Why I Didn't Take AP Physics..." you should have your counselor address it in his letter of recommendation. Is this what I should do? I've had straight A's throughout my high school career, so I think colleges might find it disappointing when BC Calc does not show up on my transcript.

And if I should have him write it (he's a bit clueless, btw), how should I have him put it?

Thanks :)

Btw... I'm not interested in doing anything in the math/science field. And I'm in APES, not AP Physics.

Yes--definitely ask your guidance counselor to explain it in his rec. It might be disappointing to not take BC Calc (I don't really think it'll make THAT huge of an impact though considering you're not really interested in math/science and something like AB Calc is still a very respectable course) but it'd be even more disappointing to get a terrible grade go on your transcript. As long as your GC makes it clear that you are a great and motivated student and that dropping this course doesn't indicate otherwise, you'll be fine.

Thanks esgee!

When I approached him the other day to ask if he'd add this to his rec, he was a bit confused (he kept trying to tell me that it wouldn't show up on my transcript, and I kept telling him that that's why I needed him to write about it, lol).

But just to make things clear, I couldn't take AB Calc, because it wouldn't fit into my schedule (since I'm taking so many APs, most of them only meet once in the rotation), so I am taking honors (and am extremely pleased with it).

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I should him write about?
