I'm in several music activities, but I list them under their proper names on the Common App because I have to select something from the drop down menu, and all that's available is music: instrumental. I'm planning on submitting an activities, resume, but how should I fill out the activities section of the common application?

Also on the commonapp awards section, I believe it says "academic awards." Does that mean I can't list music awards there as well?

I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

…Anyone? I really want to get this filled out and over with.

It’s a good call that you’re filling out an activities resume, because then you can explain things further.

If I were you, I would list your music activities as Music/Instrumental. The alternative would be to list them as ‘other’, but then it wouldn’t give adcoms a good description of the activity. For the awards, I would just go ahead and list only academic awards, and then add the music awards to the additional information section (or attached as part of your activities resume). Also, on the small essay prompt where you’re asked to elaborate about an EC, you could write about one of your music activities, if you haven’t already done so.
