how to find a summer class/camp/internship/whatever in a distant city

DD goes to App State in NC (2022) which was a fine choice for her but has no name recognition outside the Carolinas. (“Appalachian State? Do they have Division 1 Whittlin’?”) She dreams of moving to the Pacific NW after graduation but has no idea of how to pull that off. Any ideas of how to spend a productive summer (or even 3 weeks) in a far away city without local family or friends?

Thanks!

I don’t think she necessarily needs to spend summers there. She needs relevant work experiences/internships related to her major. However, if she can find an internship in her target location even better. For some majors, companies will set up and pay for housing.

@momofsenior1 - she doesn’t have to but her sister is doing 4ish months in Shanghai so it would be cool for her to get a little time away.
