The title says it all. I just want to know how where on campus i can information about it.
Also, I have work study, can anyone tell me what is the best way to get a job on campus (best way to me means fastest, and guaranteed to get the job)
Thanks a lot.

not by misspelling your major…
but you should get emails every month or so from your department counselors informing you about possible internships and job opportunities (assuming you are talking about major related internship not just some random job)

It sure does.

LOL, i don’t know how many time i misspell my major.
@ flopsy: Why did you even reply my post?

You don’t indicate what year you are. If you are a first year, then it will be extremely difficult to secure a summer internship, unless you can get in internally (the cheap way).

The best advice I would give is to attend infosessions, hand in resumes at any event that allows you to, pinpoint your ideal position based on practical skills (programs known - - Autocad, CATIA, Solidworks, FEM, Rastor , MATLAB, any CAD/CAM, dynamics simulation, thermal analysis, etc. for Mechanical Engineering) and your interest (you must be very specific), and just hope.

Not to scare you, but the chances of getting an internship position at Boeing is 1200:1 (yes there are that many applicants). It’s one of the most competitive programs, so just to give you an idea of how hard it is to get in an internship program first year.

For second years, same as above. Your chance will be higher though, but not by too much as you will be competing with 3rd and 4th years who are in greater “need” of an internship. Plus, they have completed more coursework, more experience.

From my observation of peers, those who were offered a summer internship after completing their 2nd years either:
- got in internally (family relationship with supervisor, father/mother/uncle/aunt in company)
- was in TBP -> landed good internship (Microsoft, NASA (JPL), Raytheon, Lockheed, Cisco, PG&E)
- had a special/unique skill (learned a program early and is adept, technical knowledge … possibly Cal Poly or SLO product)
- had a 3.4+ GPA (>3.5 people usually got good company, < 3.3 usually got small company)

As for third years, if you keep your GPA above 3.3, I think you should get an offer(s) (I’m not stating from a large or small company, also not stating what kind of work you get to do). Third year summer, if you’re in very good academic standing, have solid skills, had some experience in research or internship, you’ll land many offers. I know someone who had probably 8-10 offers in his 3rd year from top companies, because he was a very good candidate.

The internships positions posted by the engineering department are not very attractive ones in my opinion, especially those posted at the end of the year (Symantec .. which seems like they were desperate). I would advise you instead to line up the companies which you are interested in applying for an internship, and apply online. Most applications which have the right keyword will be passed on to corresponding hiring managers. Also, go to career fairs, and take time in your coursework and other activities to find out what in ME you are interested in (energy & thermal, manufacturing, systems & controls, solid mechanics, design, etc.)

That’s your best bet I would say, if you don’t have any connections. Good luck.

Work at the dining hall - that’s almost instant assuming you are fully qualified. Secure and fast, but not the most popular work study job.

If you are not satisfied with that response, then do the work yourself and look up work study postings on the FAO website. You should have an equal chance of getting any job as long as you are qualified and quickly notify the supervisor of your interest in the position.

Thanks BoelterHall. It would be great if u can introduce me some of the company that offer internship program. Besides, someone have suggested me that talking to professors may help because they have connection. but school wont start untill … (OMG i don’t remember when does school start !!! help me out please),would it be too late? .
Anyway, if anyone can provide some info, please help. All help are highly appreciated!
One last, Does UCLA have Wifi cover the whole campus or just in some places?

do you know anyone whose dad/mom works for boeing? thats a pretty easy way to secure an interview. my dad works at boeing and knows the internship guy well, and i think im getting my friend an internship next summer.

you need to have completed freshman year to do the internship.

I’m not part of the hiring /HR staff so I can’t provide you with any connections. Almost all large companies should have an internship program, just look it up at the company website.

Talking with professors won’t land you an internship most of the time, because only a few are affiliated with the industry.

It’s all about your initiative when it comes to landing internships. I don’t know why you are concerned with the start day anyways … the internship/co-op season doesn’t start until a few months and the hiring doesn’t occur until half year later.

i am concerned about it because i don’t anything about internship ^^, and i just moved to L.A, so i really don’t know any here ^^. Therefore, I think it best that i start to research about it while school hasn’t started yet. Btw, I’m a transfer student.
