my search for an afterschool job in HS has been disappointing at best.

I'm still a senior in HS, but I'm already worrying about getting a job in college. Is it easier or harder? Does the school help you in your quest?

Can someone please describe the steps that one must take to obtain a job?

No answers like "fill out an application at McDonalds" please; no disrespect to McDonald's workers, of course.

many colleges offer work and study programs, where u can work at the libraries and different places on campus, which can help pay for your tutition and other stuff

they is also stuff like peer tutoring

make yourself marketable

Are you bilingual? Do you know ASL? Put that sort of crap on your resume.

Truth be told unless you’ve got connections that can land you a job you’re not really qualified for, your options are a bit bleak until you get some higher education or some sort of vocational training.

What exactly have you been searching for?

craigslist/snagajob

i’d take anything, but I havent heard back from anybody, even after a solid 4 months of applying and reapplying (most snagajob postings limit you to one application per 90 day period, grrr).

if I’d have to resort to those 2 in college, i might as well…

What kind of jobs though? There’s bound to be a restaurant hiring waiters or something.

Peer tutoring can be a good job as you get to meet a lot of people, you can study when there isn’t anyone looking for help on your shift and you get to meet the other tutors who can give you help in subjects where you need help. You have to maintain a high GPA to tutor though. Sometimes the center will refer private tutor requests to peer tutors as well.

One job area that’s usually in demand is lifeguards at the pool.

Almost every school has a student employment website or office on campus where on campus jobs are posted. The job application is usually very simple and so is the interview process. They already know you’ve been through a tough enough time getting into the school and you are generally trusted as a student.
