H wants to know, for a particular out-of-state university, how many students applied from our state and how many were accepted from our state for, say, this past round of applications. Is there any place where such data would be readily available?

Check the Common Data Set for the school. It should be available on the school website by searching for Common Data Set.

I don’t think CDS will show individual state admission stats…no idea how to find that other than asking the admissions office…rotsaruck

State-by-state admissions are unlikely to appear in the school’s Common Data Set (although that is a terrific resource for all kinds of admission, enrollment, FA and merit, etc. information). On the school’s website, look for a freshman profile or other promising-titled reports usually published by the Information Management or similarly-named department. Most publics are required by law to submit information reports containing generalized in-state, OOS and int’l data. I’ve never seen a specific state breakout on the reports I’ve viewed; the only break you might get is if your state is granted an in-state tuition preference because of its proximity to the school in question…in which case, you could tailor keyword searches accordingly.

You could call and ask. There’s no reason for them not to tell you.

Sometimes if you root around admissions blogs some of that info will be there, but not systematically.

I doubt most even track that info in such detail.

What state are you from?
Oregon?
Shows where students are attending, but not where accepted.

I came across this link to The Chronicle of Higher Education. The latest data is for 2010, but you can search by specific college.

Another way would be to look at your state level reports for ACTs & SATs & see where students in your state are sending their scores. It’s not perfect of course (kids could send one or the other or both) and not everyone who send scores ends up applying, and it doesn’t show schools which get less than a certain #.

Most schools have an office of Institutional Research - they may have stats available, or may be able to provide information.
